SEADEPTH

Context

SEADEPTH gives offshore anglers and boat owners high-resolution bathymetry built from survey data and shaded relief: the structures, contours and terrain that ordinary marine charts flatten out. It is a planning and visualisation tool that works alongside official charts and onboard systems, not a replacement for them. The client is based in the USA.

My role

I led the whole build, from a loosely defined product idea to a production release.

• Cross-platform Flutter app with a clean, responsive interface and smooth zoom and pan on the water.
• Depth contours with graduated intervals: one foot from 1 to 500 ft, ten feet to 2,500 ft and eighty feet beyond, so the chart keeps full precision inshore without clogging deep water.
• Overlay layers for pipelines and bottom composition in supported regions, included at no extra cost.
• GPX waypoint import and export, so waypoints move between SEADEPTH and other marine software and devices.
• Drift testing that tracks movement over time, so current and wind can be read before a drift.
• Everything stored on the device: charts, overlay layers and waypoints, so the app works out of coverage.
• Subscriptions through RevenueCat, including the tricky edge cases: restores, entitlements and access logic.
• Firebase backend for data, authentication and scaling, and the App Store and Google Play release.

Result

SEADEPTH is live on the App Store and Google Play.

Michael did an outstanding job leading the full development of my offshore navigation app, SeaDepth, from concept through production release. What stood out most was his ability to take loosely defined product ideas and translate them into working technical solutions, navigate edge cases around subscriptions, restores and entitlement logic, maintain stability while iterating on features and preparing for App Store release, and communicate clearly throughout the process, staying responsive even during critical phases.
